This planetarium showreel for the Lawrence Hall of Science draws on explorations & manipulations of USGS data, optimized for a hemispherical media space. The project evokes trans-scalar connections between hydrology, geology, and urban geometries. As the projection unfolds, audiences behold detailed LIDAR-derived point clouds of Lēʻahi Crater, Hawaii that form a backdrop to simulate erosion, predict rain paths, and essentialize the geography to it’s simplest legible form. A journey into the geometry of water and earth, the project makes the interconnectedness of hydrologic and geological processes a visceral reality.
